Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week
Spring Grove Area School District recognized National Apprenticeship Week by highlighting the incredible apprenticeship opportunities available to our high school students. Throughout the week, we featured the programs helping students gain valuable skills, explore career pathways, and prepare for rewarding futures. Here’s a recap of the programs that make learning without limits a reality for our students:
Hanover Auto Tech Pathways Program
In partnership with Hanover Auto Team, the Hanover Auto Tech Pathways Program offers Spring Grove Area High School students like Liam and Zacharee the chance to dive into the world of automotive technology. This year-long pre-apprenticeship program provides hands-on experience across all areas of automotive technology while fostering essential leadership skills. At the end of the program, students have the opportunity to apply for a full apprenticeship, paving the way for a fulfilling career in the auto industry.
YCAL-YBA Workforce Now Foundation Pre-Apprenticeship Program
The YCAL-YBA Workforce Now Foundation Pre-Apprenticeship Program equips students like Grace, Connor, and Van with hands-on training in construction, plumbing, electrical work, and masonry. Through partnerships with the York County Alliance for Learning (YCAL) and the York Builders Association (YBA), students build their own workstations complete with plumbing and electrical systems. Along the way, they receive OSHA safety training, network with local business leaders, and connect with hundreds of businesses in the YBA network, gaining practical skills and industry connections.
Maintenance Electrician Pre-Apprenticeship Program
The Maintenance Electrician Pre-Apprenticeship Program, in collaboration with YCAL and the York Electrical Institute (YEI), offers students real-world experience in electrical work. James and Dalton are in their first year, while William is advancing his skills in year two, learning safety protocols, conduit bending, and basic electrical theory. A highlight of the program is the capstone project, where students design and build their own electrical network. Graduates of the program are guaranteed an interview for the registered apprenticeship program at YEI, taking a crucial step toward becoming maintenance electricians.
ABC Keystone Pre-Apprenticeship Program
Through a partnership with ABC Keystone Apprenticeship, Spring Grove Area High School students gain hands-on experience in trades such as rigging, estimation, and job site safety. This program also offers OSHA certification, along with job hunting and interview preparation. By bridging the gap between high school and high-paying trade careers, the program sets students up for success in the skilled trades industry.
