A Day of Dance, Games, and German Traditions
Spring Grove Area High School recently hosted a vibrant celebration of German-American Day, Day of Unity, and Oktoberfest. The High School's German language students welcomed Ms. Tracy Lease's Middle School students to join in the festivities and learn more about German culture and language.
The High School students took the lead in planning and executing the event, creating a unique and engaging experience for all participants. The day featured four exciting stations:
- Dancing: Students learned traditional German dances in the school courtyard, led by SGAHS teacher Ms. Paxton Drumheller.
- Q&A Session: German exchange students from the York Twinning Association answered questions about life in Germany, sharing their experiences and cultural insights. High School students facilitated the discussion and encouraged student participation.
- Oktoberfest Celebration: High School students organized a traditional Oktoberfest celebration, complete with history, games, and a mock wedding ceremony.
- German-American & Unity Day: High School students led activities exploring the historical significance of German-American Day and Day of Unity, creating informative displays and interactive games.
This collaborative event between the High School and Middle School fostered a sense of community and international understanding. By engaging in these fun and educational activities, students gained a deeper appreciation for German heritage and traditions.
Thank you to Ms. Rothenberger and Ms. Lease for your leadership and to the York Twinning Association for your support in making this event a success!
