National Honor Society

About the NHS at Spring Grove Area High School
At Spring Grove Area High School, the National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes students who demonstrate excellence both in and beyond the classroom. Membership in NHS reflects a commitment to the values that define outstanding students and responsible citizens: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Students selected for NHS have shown that academic achievement is only one part of success. They also contribute to their school and community, lead by example, and act with integrity in everything they do.
Through service initiatives, leadership opportunities, and collaboration with peers, NHS members continue to grow as students and as leaders while making a positive impact in the Spring Grove community.

NHS Membership
The Spring Grove Area High School chapter of the National Honor Society, known as the Excalibur Chapter, recognizes students who meet established criteria in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Students are invited to apply for membership after meeting the academic eligibility requirements and completing at least one semester at SGAHS. Candidates then participate in a selection process that evaluates their contributions and leadership within the school and community.
Students selected for membership are formally inducted during the annual NHS Induction Ceremony each fall.
Participation and Meetings
NHS members remain active participants throughout the school year. Members:
- Attend meetings during homeroom and scheduled times before or after school
- Participate in service initiatives and chapter activities
- Collaborate with fellow members to support school and community projects
- Serve as leaders and role models for the SGAHS student body
Students who are members of NHS are assigned to the NHS homeroom to help coordinate chapter activities and communication.

The Four Pillars of the NHS
Scholarship
Members of the NHS have demonstrated a strong commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning.
Leadership
NHS students serve as role models in the classroom and throughout the school community, demonstrating initiative, responsibility, and positive influence.
Service
Giving back is an essential part of NHS membership. Students participate in service projects that benefit the school and the greater community.
Character
Members are expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty, respect, and integrity.
Chapter Constitution

Membership in the Spring Grove Area High School National Honor Society is both an honor and a responsibility. The chapter constitution outlines the standards, expectations, and procedures that guide our organization.
Students considering applying for membership, as well as current members, should carefully review the constitution in full. It explains:
- How students become eligible for NHS membership
- The selection process used by the faculty council
- Expectations for scholarship, leadership, service, and character
- Participation requirements for members
- Responsibilities that members must uphold to remain in good standing
Taking time to understand these guidelines helps ensure that all members share a clear understanding of the commitment that comes with being part of the National Honor Society.
