Summer Camps & Academies

We are now accepting applications for our All ‘bout Construction (ABC) Girls Camp that takes place June 19-22. The event is FREE and open to girls ages 14-19 with any level of experience. Campers will build take-home projects, visit active job sites, and learn from female mentors in both technical and professional careers.

Camp takes place at the ABC training facility in Manheim from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM each day and ends with a closing celebration for families. Hotel discounts are available. Click HERE to view. This is a great opportunity to experience the industry first-hand!

We are limited to 30 girls, with priority given to first-time campers.

Carnegie Mellon is committed to providing access opportunities to populations of students who have been historically underrepresented in the STEM and Computer Science fields. We materialize this support through our Summer Academy for Math and Science, AI4All @ Carnegie Mellon, and our new Computer Science Scholars program offerings.

Applications are now being accepted for the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University.  This program will be held at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa from July 2, 2023 to August 5, 2023.  Applications must be submitted no later than January 31, 2023.  For more information, visit their website HERE.

The Summer Academy for Math and Science is a six-week residential experience that provides students from underrepresented communities who have interest in engineering and/or the natural sciences, with the opportunity to achieve skills in order to pursue and complete majors in STEM fields. There are no tuition, housing or dining fees for students selected to attend this program.

The AI4All @ Carnegie Mellon program is a three-week residential experience that provides opportunities for students from underrepresented communities to study artificial intelligence with full-time faculty, staff and researchers who are leaders in the field. There are no tuition, housing or dining fees for students selected to attend this program.

The Computer Science Scholars program provides students who are traditionally under-represented in the field of computer science an opportunity to receive exposure to computing and additional computer science pre-requisites. There are no tuition, housing or dining fees for students selected to attend this program.

The curricula of these programs include a combination of hands-on learning and research via projects, and lectures by Carnegie Mellon faculty, teachers and graduate students. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities that introduce them to new people, topics, and career opportunities. College students also serve as classroom assistants, tutors and mentors.

Keystone Girls State is a non-partisan Government and Civics program designed to teach the importance of responsible citizenship and to empower young women to make a change in their community. Over the course of the week, KGS citizens will be asked to stray out of their comfort zone and truly challenge themselves to work as a team for the betterment of their city, county, and state.
KGS citizens who are rising senior in high school will spend the week intensively working together to self-govern the state of "Keystone," meant to model current Pennsylvania's local, county, and state government. Citizens will have the opportunity to campaign and run for office, draft and present legislation in the KGS House of Representatives and Senate, and to be actively involved in the Judiciary System as modeled by the state of Pennsylvania.

We would like to alert you to a valuable academic opportunity that may be of interest: the Lebanon Valley College Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Program, which will be held at Lebanon Valley College from July 24-29, 2023!  We are happy to welcome rising High School freshmen-graduating seniors.   

The registration portal for the camp is now open and can be found at the Camp website (Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Program).  Because space is limited, and they anticipate the program will fill quickly, they recommend that students submit their registration as soon as possible to secure a slot.  

The goal of the Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Program is to provide a window into the scientific basis of human health.  Through lectures and hands-on laboratory investigations in state-of-the-art laboratories, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of disciplines such as molecular biology, neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology, immunology, and other medical sciences.  Students will learn how laboratory science can be translated into improved human health, and they will engage in investigative experiences that will allow them to apply their laboratory skills to real life problems.  In addition, students will interact with practicing professionals in fields such as medicine, physical therapy, toxicology, nursing and biomedical laboratory research. The Health and Biomedical Sciences camp will provide a fun, challenging and engaging college environment in which students will develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be a biomedical scientist and health professional.   

Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences will be holding a Medical Terminology course this summer specifically for high school students. With its great success last summer, they are looking forward to continuing this offering for high school students. This course is unique from their traditional Medical Terminology course because it is ONLY available to high school dual enrollment students and will include weekly sessions with their Learner Support team to help set students up for success in college. This will be a great introductory course for any students considering a career in healthcare. Once completed, the student will earn one college credit to be carried into a program with PA College or transferred elsewhere.

All of the details are included in the attached two-page flyer.  The course will run from June 19 to August 11 and have on-campus class at PA College on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7pm (with the exception of the two dates listed) and online coursework, as it is a hybrid course. Students are expected to attend all in-person sessions and have access to a computer to complete all online coursework. The cost is listed on the flyer as well.

Students must meet all admissions requirements, as listed on the flyer, and should be a rising junior, rising senior, or will be a 2023 graduate (but currently still enrolled in high school) as of Summer 2023. The recommended deadline to apply and submit transcripts is May 15. They are currently enrolling and seats are limited, so the earlier students apply the better!

The National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Inc., and Point Park University, Rowland School of Business are teaming up to sponsor the annual ACAP Summer Program!

ACAP is a one week, FREE, residency program that introduces minority students to the accounting, business, economics and finance professions through an educational and interactive curriculum involving accounting, business, economics and finance professionals, University faculty and business, government and community mentors.

Our Writers Workshop program is designed for rising juniors or seniors, although we occasionally make exceptions for mature sophomores. Students or parents may find the application online.  No teacher or counselor recommendation is necessary for the application. Students submit a short portfolio of their work to be placed in the best workshop for their genre and level. The cost for the week is $875.  Financial assistance may be available.  We will accept and place students in workshops on a rolling basis until seats are full.

The Edge summer college program is a five-week, credit-bearing college experience. Edge is designed for high school students moving into their junior and senior years. Students in Edge will have the opportunity to attend college courses taught by University of Delaware faculty, participate in on- and off-campus curricular and co-curricular activities, and live in a UD residence hall.
